Here at Tezlom, we believe that each of our franchisees is a part of the wider Tezlom family. They are instrumental to the success of Tezlom as a whole and without them, there would be no franchise. This is why we have decided to give each franchise owner the opportunity to share a little more about themselves and the unique skills and abilities which they bring to their franchise.
This time, we have been speaking with Carol who has been a Tezlom franchise owner since 2017. She runs the Tezlom franchise for Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Stirlingshire with her husband Kevin.
Q: How did you hear about Tezlom and what was it that appealed to you?
A: It was my husband who showed me a video with Ryan Armitage promoting the franchise and we were really keen to try running our own business. We got a positive impression from Tezlom.
Q: What made you decide to become a Tezlom franchisee?
A: Out of the various franchises we researched, this one seemed as if they would offer the best support. We spoke to a couple of franchisees before committing and they spoke highly of Tezlom.
Q: What was your background before Tezlom?
A: After doing an MA Joint Honours degree and then working for a couple of years, I was drawn to something far more vocational and wanted to work in a job where I could help care for people , so I went back to university to study for my BSc in Nursing. I worked as a nurse in the NHS for many years and thoroughly enjoyed being a nurse. I specialised in Learning Disabilities and complex needs.
Q: What do you like most about being a Tezlom franchisee?
A: I really like the support given by the Tezlom team, they really are always approachable if you have anything you want to discuss or ask about. It is a family-run business and I love that we are now in a position where myself and my husband Kevin are able to work together creating our own family business.
Q: What would a typical day look like for you?
A: It is so varied and can be busy! My typical day now means I can organise and drop the kids off at school, then I head into the office and jot down my to-do list for the day. We usually start off with a team chat to go over anything important and goals for the day - with a cuppa, of course!
I catch up with emails and calls. In recruitment, there are always applications, candidates to contact and usually interviews booked, then all the compliance side as part of the process of getting staff ready for work and compliance with existing staff.
Emma and I both deal with shift cover requests and telephone enquiries. Sometimes staff call up for a chat about any issues they are having and I do encourage them to contact us about anything. As the Director, there is the ‘business’ side that I deal with - payroll, invoicing, credit control and so forth.
Each day can be different, but that’s what I enjoy.
Q: Can you give me an example of an achievement or situation you are proud of?
A: I am proud of having built up a business that I can work around my family. It is a unique and amazing experience to start a business from nothing, then grow it into a company that care homes have as their number one agency. I love that our agency staff think we are excellent to work for, our staff feel valued and the clients give feedback that our staff are the best.
Q: What would your advice be for anyone considering becoming a franchisee?
A: Tezlom offers so much support, time and expertise for franchisees. My advice would be to work hard, be patient and stay focused. Running your own business isn’t easy and there will be highs and lows, but if you are committed, you will get where you want to be.
“Growth doesn’t come with a single action. It is the consequence of persistence, courage and hard work,”.
If Carol’s story has inspired you to find out more about what becoming a franchisee could mean for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are always happy to hear from you and will help to guide you through the process, answering questions and providing support every step of the way.
