Let’s talk about empathy

The modern business scape has bid adieu to the uptight nature of suits and briefcases – and we at Tezlom could not be happier about it! With corporate curtains pulled open thanks to the nature of social media and online forums, cultures of openness, vulnerability and empathy have become key drivers behind brand success and growth in 2023. And with Tezlom continuing to see incredible growth with entrepreneurs seeking caring communities where they have the freedom to flourish, it has never been more important for us to celebrate not only the human touch, but the humane touch in equal parts.

Empathy has never been a more critical characteristic and value to hold in business. And as a business that works in healthcare recruitment, we truly do live and breathe those beliefs in our community. After all – what’s the point in running a franchise in healthcare recruitment if we don’t understand the fundamentals? Since our inception in 2008, empathy has been the beating heart of our brand – it evolves, develops and expands its definitions on a daily basis, and it has contributed heavily to our collective wellbeing and growth. And how have we been able to place so much importance on the concept of empathy as a community? Well, every member of the Tezlom team – whether they are a franchisee or one of our exceptional staff members – contributes heavily to our culture. So, if they do not feel protected, nurtured and rewarded, our whole operation is hindered.

As well as boosting our people’s morale, holding ourselves to higher standards as a brand by showing empathy at every available opportunity has enabled us to become one of the most forward-thinking franchise opportunities available today. And this isn’t one of our core principles just so we can talk about it! We rely heavily on the interconnection, collaboration and wellbeing of our network, and that all starts with leaders. In fact, around 61% of employees with highly empathetic senior leaders were reported to be innovative at work, while 76% of employees were found to be often or always engaged at work1. Thanks to operating within an environment that fosters a positive and engaging culture, the Tezlom community feels protected in a space where they can flourish every day. We are devoted to creating a permanent ‘safe space’ within our franchise operations as we seek ways of scaling and developing with an aligned network of devoted professionals.

It is impossible to discount empathy as being a core factor in the continued healthy growth of the industry. When empathetic leadership is discussed, it is often within the context of a welcoming environment where managers and bosses have a strong sense of self-awareness thus avoiding angry outbursts. But it has a very different meaning in practice.

“Tezlom is a shining example of what can be achieved when you place empathetic leaders in positions that allow their values to flourish,” explains our Group Brand Manager, Kay Lou Haskins. “As a brand, our infrastructure relies on the strong foundations of care, empathy and openness – which means our franchisees and staff must live by those values as well. Thanks to our rigorous recruitment process, we are continuing to prove the value of adopting a humane culture in business, as no single member of our entire community is ever left behind. With brands in the franchise industry continuing to see the benefit of reverse-engineering business models by becoming about ‘people’ as opposed to solely focusing operations on financial or growth targets, it’s never made more sense to join the brand that pioneered this approach.

“Everyone is entitled to the best possible mental health and wellbeing, and I’m humbled that I can support Tezlom as we continue to inspire change in franchising – we’re changing the game so that everyone can play! With personal well-being in business becoming increasingly championed, I encourage all entrepreneurs to prioritise care and empathy when deciding on ‘what next?’.”

In just a year, we have welcomed eight new franchise territories and celebrated expansion across our well-established, trusting network. We believe that, through employing empathy as the core driver in our business, we have got the balance of business and people just right.
